Amritsar, January 25, 2015: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and local MP Capt Amarinder Singh today thanked the party rank and file across the state for the great show of solidarity and unity during the Congress rally here yesterday.
He said, the mammoth presence of people in the rally established beyond any doubt that the party was united and strong in Punjab as never before.
In a message to the party workers he said, "I am touched, overwhelmed and indebted by the love, affection and honour you have bestowed on me by coming from different and distant parts of Punjab, braving fog and cold together, to make the Congress rally a monumental success in this historic town of Amritsar".
He said, he did not have enough words to thank the workers and leaders who joined the rally to convey a clear and categorical signal for the change of corrupt and incompetent Akali-BJP regime in Punjab.
The Congress leader said, the rally had unnerved all the opponents like Akali-BJP who by now must have seen the writing on the wall that their days are numbered. "Let them have no doubts about that this was our declaration of final battle against you to ensure that you are out of Punjab sooner than later", he said, adding, "let me also add that their time is up and they can no longer continue to befool people of Punjab anymore".
Capt Amarinder said, he has received hundreds of calls since yesterday over the success of the rally. "This has not only imbibed a sense of pride and fresh enthusiasm among the Congress cadres, but also strengthened their resolve to fight to the finish to see the regime change in Punjab".

Gidderbaha/ Mukatsar, January 25, 2015: Indian Youth congress will take the issues of the farmers to every street. Participating in the ongoing KISAN SATYAGRAH protest against the non-availability of urea to the farmers in Gidderbaha, S Raja Warring, President, Indian Youth Congress and MLA, Gidderbaha today lambasted the Modi government for turning a blind eye towards the issues of farmers. The most badly effected are the states of Punjab which are called the food bowl for whole of the country, the farmers are not being given the urea which is resulting in agitations across the country. Moreover the proposed amendment in the land acquisition bill has made the farmer community very depressed in the country. Lauding the UPA regime Raja said while addressing the protestors in Gidderbaha that pro farmer policies of the UPA government had brought prosperity to the farmers. The farmers were given highest minimum support price against their crop. There was no dearth of fertilizers. Even the fuel prices were controlled by the government in favour of the farmers of India. The crop of the farmers was immediately purchased from mandis, the farmer had not to wait for long for their produce to be purchased by government agencies. Today all this is finished. There is only marketing left with this Modi Government, no nothing deliverance at the ground level.
Accusing the SAD BJP in the state of Punjab for deliberately neglecting the issues of the farmers, Raja said that since BJP in Punjab is in alliance with SAD, why doesn't they raise the issue of farmers with their union government. These both partners are befooling people of Punjab. Today why doesn't the Chief Minister of Punjab visit the union agriculture minister and depict the actual picture before him. Why the SAD is silent over this attitude of the alliance partner BJP with the kind of anti farmer policies they are perusing.
Raja also handed over the memorandum to the Tehsildar Gidderbaha after the protest

Mohali, January 25, 2015: PUTIA has strongly objected to the decision of the Punjab Government to hire services of private agencies from outside Punjab to provide skill development training to the poor children in the state. The Association demanded from the government to allot the skill development project to the Technical Institutions in Punjab.

A meeting was held under the leadership of President, PUTIA, Dr. J.S Dhaliwal in this context and it was resolved to submit a representation to the state Government. A request will be made to the Chief Minister to handover the task of skill development to the Technical Institutions in the state and to utilize the amount of Rs 300 crore for this purpose through these Institutions rather than hiring new agencies from other states.

Senior Vice president, PUTIA and Chairman Doaba Group of Colleges, S Manjit Singh said that 15 years back very few institutions were there in Punjab but now it has achieved great heights in the field of technical and skill based education. Eyebrows were being raised with the government decision to allot the multicrore project to outside state agencies which otherwise can give lot of financial strength to the educational institutions of Punjab.

Vice President, PUTIA and Chairman, Aryans group of Colleges, Dr Anshu Kataria said that the entrepreneurs have invested thousands of crore rupees in the infrastructure of technical institutions. These colleges are fully equipped with the latest technology with which skill development project can be easily completed. Kataria said that PSDM instead of outsourcing this project to other state agencies should use the infrastructure of these colleges.

He further added that education industry of Punjab is in trouble these years because of poor admissions. Five years back the students from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand and North East etc used to come Punjab for higher education. But now because of many new colleges and increase in seats these students have stopped coming to these affiliated colleges. Many of the Institutions have been closed down and many are on the verge of closure. PUTIA believes if these skill Development Projects are given to the Institutions of Punjab then it could surely bailout the financial crisis.

Bathinda, Jan 25: The Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Sumeet Jarangal addressed the students of Adesh institute of dental sciences Bathinda on Sunday. China made ‘killing string’ is a threat to India

Ferozepur, January 24: Ferozepur is famous for celebrations of Basant Panchami- a symbol of the beginning of the end of the winter season - with flying of kites and zeal and fervor depends upon the weather conditions. But the traditional fervor of Saraswati Puja worshiping idols of the goddess is hardly seen among the youths.

Today, the day started with foggy conditions which disheartened the kite lovers, who were waiting for the Basant Panchami for so many days. However, the blooming weather later brought smiles on their faces in the afternoon.

Basant Panchami, which is a symbol of the beginning of the end of the winter season, is marked with flying the kites. The festival of basant is celebrated with more zeal than Diwali in this part of the world. People from all walks of life come from far flung areas, just to witness the enthusiasm, which has become the hallmark of Basant Panchami Celebrations in this border town.

The most interesting feature of celebrations is that people start flying kites a night before the Basant Panchami and carry on throughout the day along with their friends and family. Not only this the special kites with burning candles dominate the darkness presents a marvelous view in the night. And the other one is that a good number of people belonging to this area who had left Ferozepur decades ago, come here to join the festival. So was the situation in the city as the relatives and friends of locals, belonging to far off places, have also reached the town to enjoy the event.

Nothing can be compared with the enthusiasm of my family members with the enjoying of this festival, said Rajiv Arora and Jatinder Sikri.

Krishan Sachdeva, who is now settled in Panchkula now, comes almost every year to enjoy the Festival of kites in this border town by cancelling all other engagements.

On this day, the people climb onto the terraces of their houses early morning and flew kites amidst drum beats and playing DJ systems. The kite flier’s joy knows no bound every time he succeeded in cutting the string of another kite and shouting ‘Hi Ee Bo”

The only sad part is with the arrival of China string in the market as several people received injuries due to lethal China made string in the last few days. However, no person was however reportedly injured today due to the China made string or any accident. But just few days ago one person was injured due to this lethal string and had received 32 stitches on the face. One person had received 20 stitches due to a cut on neck last day.

Despite ban imposed by the district administration, the China made string was available in the market. The police had, however, arrested few persons and confiscated huge quantity of China Made string but the kids were still seen flying kites with this “killing string”.

Following the request of Indian government to curb smuggling of counterfeit currency, Nepal had also imposed a ban on carrying 500 and 1,000 denominated Indian bank notes in Nepal. The restriction on carrying high denomination bank notes to and from India had created inconvenience to a large number of Nepali workers in India to remit their hard-earned money to Nepal.
Nepalese Government officials say lifting of the ban will provide a great relief to Nepali workers as well as Indian tourists travelling to Nepal. Nepal, however, is yet to formally revoke the legal restriction.....

Amritsar, January 24 - A Punjab Congress here today sounded bugle for the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab urging people to maintain the same momentum and ensure that the Akali-BJP government is inflicted a historic defeat. "This is the beginning of the final battle", the Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh declared to a applause from a sizable crowd of people which attended the Lalkar Rally against the Akali-BJP government day.
Addressing the rally here, Congress leaders, who included besides Capt Amarinder Singh, Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar, former PCC presidents Mohinder Singh Kaypee and Lal Singh and former union ministers RL Bhatia, Ms Preneet Kaur and Manish Tewari, said that the Congress could not be seen more powerful and more united as it was today with almost each and every party worker and leader from all over the state registering his presence and participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Capt Amarinder declared that it was the beginning of the final and decisive battle against the Akali-BJP regime which will be taken to its logical conclusion in 2017 assembly elections which Congress was certain to win with a thumping majority.
He lashed out at the Bhartiya Janata Party for its alleged double standards for preaching one thing and practising something else. He pointed out, while the BJP president Amit Shah was claiming to hold a rally against the drugs at Amritsar, his party was supporting the Akalis and its tainted ministers in the Vidhan Sabha.
Capt. dared Shah, "if you are really sincere about dealing with the problem of drugs, better withdraw your support to the Akalis who are neck deep into drugs". He pointed out, not only in Punjab, even in Delhi they were aligning with Akalis despite claiming that they were not happy with the alliance.
Asserting that the BJP ran away from holding a rally in Amritsar after the Congress announced to hold one the same day, Capt Amarinder had a dig at Amit Shah. He said, while the BJP claimed that the Amritsar rally was postponed because of Shah being busy in Delhi elections, he was actually going around in Bihar. "Their lies have been exposed", he remarked.
Blaming the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for his failure to curb the menace of drugs, he lashed out at the Akalis for promoting and peddling drugs in Punjab. He pointed out, three prominent ministers of the party Bikram Majithia, Avinash Chander and Swaran Singh Philaur had already been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate.
Capt said, although the scourge of drugs was the worst problem Punjab faced, there were other issues like unemployment, sliding economy, industrial and agriculture decline that had plagued the state. He regretted that Mr Badal had not learnt any lessons even after being the Chief Minister for five times.
Later Capt Amarinder in an informal interaction with the reporters rejected a question suggesting that the Congress was divided in Punjab. "How can you say the Congress is divided when 35 of the 43 MLAs and over 60 ex-MLAs, former PCC presidents and union ministers attended today's rally?" he asked, while asserting, "Congress was never so much united and strong as it proved to be today".
Prominent among those present included former union ministers RL Bhatia, Manish Tewari and Ms Preneet Kaur and former PCC presidents Laal Singh, Mohinder Singh Kaypee and Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh.
The 35 MLAs included Sunil Jakhar, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Laal Singh, Preneet Kaur, OP Soni, Sukh Sarkaria , Raj Kumar Verka, Tript Bajwa, Kewal Dhillon, Rana Sodhi, Ashwani Sekhri, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Amrik Singh Dhillon, Aruna Chaudhary, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurcharan Singh Boparai, Gur Iqbal Kaur Babli, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Ms Harchand Kaur, Hardayal Singh Kambhoj, Jagmohan Singh, Joginder Singh Panjgraian, Karan Kaur Brar, Mohammad Sadiq, Navtej Singh Cheema, Parminder Singh Pinki, Rainish Kumar Babbi, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Sunder Shyam Aroa and Tarlochan Singh Soond. Mirheri (Sangrur), January 24- Exhorting the people to not get swayed away by the hollow slogans of the opposition parties, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today said that they must elect only true public servants rather than 'entertainers' for ensuring better progress of state and prosperity of its people.
Addressing the gathering during the second day of Sangat Darshan program in Dhuri assembly segment, the Chief Minister slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for misleading the people by showing them green pastures. He said that it was a well known fact that the elected MPs of AAP have miserably failed to deliver anything to the people. Mr. Badal said that anyone could entertain the people by catchy slogans but only the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was committed to serve the people and safeguard the interests of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat.
Assailing the Congress party for misleading the poor and downtrodden sections of the society in order to fulfill its vested political interests, the Chief Minister said that instead of formulating the policies for the development of the weaker sections of society the Congress, which has ruled the country for several decades, has always deceived them by depriving their legitimate rights. He said that it was the age-long policy of the Congress to deny basic facilities to weaker sections of the society and hoodwinked them through false slogans. Mr Badal said that the net result of all these anti-poor policies of the Congress party was that this strata of society was today confronting a number of problems.
However, the Chief Minister said that whenever the people of Punjab have bestowed upon the responsibility of serving the state to them, the SAD-BJP alliance government has accorded top priority to ensure the welfare of weaker sections of the society. He said that the pro-poor schemes like Shagun, Atta-Dal, Mai Bhago Istri Vidya Scheme and others have been launched by his government, for safeguarding the interests of the poorest of poor in the society. Mr. Badal further said that his government would continue to make endeavors for safeguarding the interests of these underprivileged sections of the society, who have played a key role in the overall development of the country in general and Punjab in particular.
The Chief Minister further said that state Congress leaders were unnecessarily creating a hue and cry over the Sangat Darshans in the state. He said that Sangat Darshan was an integral part of state's governance as it virtually brought the government at the doorsteps of people thereby bridging the communication gap between the masses and administration, which normally hindered the process of progress. Mr. Badal further said that besides acting as a catalyst for redressing the grievances of people, the Sangat Darshan programs were also helpful for the state government to adjudge the working of officers of the various departments.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister held Sangat Darshan in village Mirkheri, Harchandpur, Daula, Baraajwal, Dhandra and Bangawali to give a fillip to the development of these villages.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, MLA Mr. Iqbal Singh Jhunda, former Ministers Mr. Gobind Singh Longowal and Mr. Rajinder Singh Kanjla, his Special Principal Secretary Dr. S Karunaraju and Deputy Commissioner Mr. Arshdeep Singh Thind.

Chandigarh, January 24: The Punjab Congress today slammed the state government for misleading the people by selling them false dreams in the name Rs 18,000 crore road projects which were announced by Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at Bathinda recently. The people in the state had lost faith on the state government as the big announcements made earlier remained only on paper and nothing materialized.
In a statement, party General Secretary Rajanbir Singh said the state government earlier during the last few years announced big ticket projects totally more than Rs. 30,000 none of which reached the implementation stage. And as such, thislatest announcement although made by Gadkari continued to be viewed with suspicion going by the track record of this government which was that of dismal failure.
He said the information obtained by PPCC RTI cell chairman Dr Jasdeepak Singh had exposed the state government so far as the implementation of such announcements were concerned. These projects included Ludhiana Metro, Pod system for Amritsar and Mohali-Phagwara Expressway. These projects had altogether been dropped after presenting them as the developmental face of the Parkash Singh Badal government. It was the state government that had now lost its face as none was willing to believe such hyperbolic statements. The foundation stones of several projects were laid with much fanfare.
Punjab Govt has been fooling people time and again by announcing development projects over time and again promising development , but VARIOUS major projects are dropped in between . Initial spending is done , projects are inaugurated and then many projects bite the dust .He pointed out the state government acquired land including fertile agricultural land for these projects but only to be abandoned . this included 6-laning of Chandigarh Ludhiana and 4-laning of Chandigarh-Anandpur Sahib highways. He said as per the RTI reply various development projects which were approved and were to be facilitated or funded by PIDB since 2008 were in shambles . These projects were either dropped or their present status showed that they were on hold, after spending initial huge sums of money.
Rajanbir also referred to the much publicized ropeway between Anandpur Sahib and Naina Devi which was now under a question mark . The Rs 8500 lacs project was on hold after incurring initial expenditure of Rs 100.24 lac. Similarly, Railway over bridge at Gidderbaha on Lambi-Gidderbaha road estimated to cost Rs 2000 lac was dropped after spending Rs. 60.58 lac. The Rs 700 lac Railway Under Bridge at Maur Mandi met similar fate after spending Rs 6.32.
He said several projects for construction of bus terminals under PPP mode had been dropped whuich included bus terminal at Sangrur, Kapurthala,Faridkot after an initial expenditure of Rs 4.0 lac , 4.lac and 6.0 lac respectively , whose estimated cost was 40 crore each . Similarly the bus terminus at Kharar had also been dropped after spending Rs 3.20 lac , whose estimated cost was 10.00 crores . also included under such projects was Rs 350 crore five star hotel at Mohali . then there was Rs 50 crore Punjab Haat and Amusement park at Mohali whose fate was no different after Rs 2.0 lac were spent .Other such projects were Punjab heritage train announced by the state government.
He said the list of projects on hold was long which included Expressway around Mohali , Mohali - Phagwara Expressway ,Tanda- Sri- Hargobindpur –Amritsar Road, Batala Mehta -Beas Road , Rope way between Anandpur Sahib- Naina Devi and Hotel at Ludhiana (Circuit House), Muktsar-Malout Road, Kapurthala- Taran Taran –Chhabal- Attari Road , Ferozepur- Zira- Dharamkot ,Rampura Maur Talwandi Sabo –Raman Mandi,Ratiya- Boha- Budhlada-Bhikhi , Barnala –Mansa- Sardulgarh-Sirsa ,Mukerian-Gurdaspur ,Phillaur-Naggar-Rahon, Ludhiana- Ferozepur Road along Sidhwan Canal , Nidampur to Lehra , Mullanpur-Raikot- Barnala Road , Doraha to Jagraon and Raiyya to Khara road .
He said the projects under Engineering Procurement Construction mode which were on hold were Railway Over Bridges on Amritsar-Bhikhiwind –Khemkaran Road , Amritsar Attari section , Gidderbaha-Lambi Road , Banga –Phillaur Road,Sura Nassi Jalandhar ,Noormahal-Phillaur Road and Amritsar Mehta Sri Hargobindpur Road . A 5 star hotel project at Amritsar was also on hold after an initial expenditure done of Rs 1 lac , whose estimated cost was Rs 175 crores . Similarly construction of Bus Terminus at Patiala , Punjab Habitat Center , IIM at Mohali , all which were to be under PPP mode (Public Private Partnership) were on hold .
Rajanbir advised the state government to stop do some introspection as it was time to conduct an inquiry into all these projects by independent agency.
