Sukhi Baath's Punjab Bhawan in Canada a positive step in development of Punjabi language: Dr SP Singh
Ludhiana, May 30, 2017: Punjab Bhawan set up by Canadian NRI Sukhi Baath at Surrey, Canada is playing a positive role with regard to development of Punjab language on a foreign land, said Dr SP Singh, former VC Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
Speaking at a function on NRI Punjabi literature, dedicated to the birth anniversary of Punjabi writer, literary critic and thinker Principal Sant Singh Sekhon at GGN Khalsa College here on Tuesday, the former VC also referred to the literary magazine “Sugandhian” launched by Baath as a right platform for the young generation and another significant step in promoting the Punjabi language abroad.
Dr Singh stressed on need of collective efforts for the development of the Punjabi language across the foreign shores.
Sukhi Baath said that on the first anniversary of “Punjab Bhawan”, a grand function would be organised there in the first week of October, where hundreds of writers from North America would participate.
He also talked about Punjab Bhawan's ambitious project of ongoing digitisation of 10 lakh books for setting up a digital library. A mobile application was also being developed so that Punjabis spread across the length and breadth of globe could benefit from these projects.
Prominent Canada-based Punjabi poet and coordinator of Punjab Bhawan Kavinder Chand spoke in detail about the activities of Punjab Bhawan as well as their future programmes.
On this occasion, literary magazine “Sugandhian”, two books of Surrey (Canada) based Punjabi poet Mohan Gill “Rabb Daure Te Gaya” and “Kutte Di Teerath Yatra” and a short stories book of US-based writer Parvez Sandhu “Code Blue” were also released by Dr SP Singh, Sukhi Baath and other literary figures.
