Chandigarh, February 21, 2019: Journalist turned author Kamaljit Singh Banwait's latest book 'Kaal kothrian da sirnava' released today in a function held at the Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh. Padam Shri recipient poet Surjit Pattar, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, Karuna S Raju, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab, K S Pannu graced the occasion.
The authorsaid, "I've tried to be unbiased and decided to write about this incident as I felt people wanted to know what happened after the assassination of then Punjab CM Beant Singh. I was told by advocates that I could face jail for this; I replied that even inside I'll write a few more books".
Surjit Pattar said, "this book is a courageous attempt and will enable us to decode the 'silence' we adopt when it comes to speaking up on important issues."
Karuna S Raju said that the book is so beautifully and simply written that "reader can see a film in his mind while reading it".
KS Pannu said that Punjabis shy away from writing about history. "This book has laid a platform for other writers to continue writing on this incident", he added.
As many as three personalities reviewed the book; these included retired principal Tarsem Bahiya, Punjabi journalist JS Sidhu and poetess Jagdeep Noorani. The function was organised by Punjab Educationist Forum.
