Restriction on permits to serve liquor in marriage palaces to go
Chandigarh, April 19, 2017: The Punjab government has lifted restrictions on serving liquor at marriages palaces located along the highways in the state.
Formal orders will be issued in this regard soon.
The decision followed the legal opinion of Punjab’s Advocate General (AG) sought by the state’s excise and taxation department which said the marriages palaces were out of the purview of the Supreme Court’s order.
A senior excise officer told babushahi.com that their department has received the AG’s report and action would be taken accordingly.
But sources said that verbal messages have already been out to the competent officials to issue permits to the marriages palaces as there was no legal bar on this.
The top court had banned sale and serving of liquor along national and state highways. Resultantly, the business of liquor sellers and owners of restaurants and hotels suffered a big setback across the country.
