GST Council eases filing tax returns rules for July, August
New Delhi, June 18, 2017: The GST Council has decided to give two month relaxation for filing tax returns in the first two months of the GST roll-out from July 1, 2017.
The decision was taken at the Council’s meeting on Sunday.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told mediapersons that the slight relaxation was given to the businesses for July and August to help them deal with any problem that might arise on account of lack of preparedness.
The business and industry have been demanding deferment of the GST implementation.
But strict adherence to the new indirect tax regime will have to be followed from September, he added.
Under the relaxation, the businesses can file sale returns for July by September 5 instead of August 10 and for August by September 20 instead of September 10 under the new dispensation.
