Patiala, August 7, 2019: Preneet Kaur, MP, and wife of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, fell victim to cyber crime when a person claiming to be a manager in State Bank of India fraudulently withdrew Rs 23 lakh from her account. However, the scamster has been apprehended and the money recovered.
This incident happened when Preneet was in Delhi attending the monsoon session of the Parliament.
The fake bank manager called her up and said he wanted to deposit her salary and for that he wanted to know her account number, ATM pin and CVC number. He also asked for the OTP number which she received.
The moment Preneet gave the person all the details he asked for, she was shocked when she received an SMS saying that Rs 23 lakh were debited from her account. Immediately, she informed the police. The cyber cell of the police started investigation and traced the caller to Jamtara area of Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Speaking to Babushahi, IG Patiala Range AS Rai said the money has been recovered and the accused is in custody and being brought to Patiala.
