Chandigarh (Maloya), March 22, 2024: Members of Pendu Sudhar Committee, Chandigarh felicitated Satnam Singh Sandhu for his nomination as first ever Member of Parliament (MP) to Rajya Sabha from Chandigarh here at Guru Dronacharya stadium, Maloya, Chandigarh on Friday.
Didar Singh, President of Pendu Sudhar Committee, Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, Balwinder Sharma, Rupinder Rana, Mam Chand Rana and Bhajan Singh other members of the committee were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Didar Singh, President of Pendu Sudhar Committee, said, “The residents of city beautiful feel honoured as for the first time in the history of Chandigarh, Satnam Singh Sandhu has been nominated as Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. It indeed is a proud moment for all residents of the city beautiful. And we as members of Pendu Sudhar Committee from 15 villages situated on the peripheral areas of Chandigarh take pride in the fact that Satnam Sandhu is one amongst us; he comes from a small village Rasulpur in Ferozepur district. Born and brought up in a humble setting, beset on hardships and struggle, Sandhu Ji’s journey has been inspirational in more ways than one.”
Singh added, “Today, Satnam Sandhu is not just a successful edupreneur, but he is quite popular among people for philanthropic works he has done for the upliftment of different sections of society. Sandhu has worked relentlessly to drive change in the areas of governance, education, health, sustainability and socio-economic growth in Chandigarh and to build a sustainable and progressive future for the people of the city. Sandhu has been leading different philanthropic works and providing financial assistance to many students.”
Balwinder Sharma, another member of the committee said, ““Born and brought up in a humble background in a rural setting, Sandhu is the son of the soil in truest sense. Connected to his roots, he understands the problems of the people in rural areas really well. Till now, Chandigarh Welfare Trust (CWT) – one the NGOs run by him, has successfully organized 22 free health camps in various parts of Chandigarh that have provided healthcare services to more than 50,000 people. More than 3,000 individuals have already reaped the benefits of free limbs during the previous camps organised by CWT.”
Rajya Sabha MP and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “I am profoundly grateful to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered me worthy of this position and forwarded my name to President of India for my nomination as Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. I want to thank members of Pendu Sudhar Committee for their benevolent gesture. Not just Chandigarh but the entire nation has seen unprecedented and all-inclusive development and growth across all sectors under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past 10 years. Talking about Chandigarh, the city beautiful has got an International airport, Rs 90 Crores Cyber Operation and Security Centre (CENCOPS) to counter cybercrime launched, Smart City Project, upgradation of Chandigarh Railway Station, Vande Bharat Express and implementation of Central Employee Rules in Chandigarh among other works.”
“Chandigarh leapfrogged to 11th position in 2022 from 66th position in Swachh Survekshan 2021, Chandigarh ranks 2nd in the Performance Grading Index 2020-21 and UT has been placed at the second position based on the overall composite health index score in 2019–20. The unprecedented development Chandigarh has seen in the past 10 years has only been possible owing to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And if Chandigarh wants to attain first place in different domains, then we need strong leadership of PM Modi in future as well,” added MP.
