Delegation from Republic of Congo pays visit to Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University

Chandigarh, April 16, 2024 - Farmers in the Republic of Congo will benefit from the advanced agricultural techniques, research, and innovations pioneered by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University in Hisar. Leading a delegation, Ambassador Wabenga Kalebo Theo from the Republic of Congo, held discussions with Prof. B.R. Kamboj, the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Progressive farmers of Haryana along with officials of the University were also present in this meeting.
Vice Chancellor Prof. B.R. Kamboj said that the members of the delegation were given detailed information about the research work being done in the agriculture sector by the university and the improved varieties of seeds.
There was discussion on providing special support to the delegation in the cultivation of Basmati rice and maize. In the meeting, members expressed interest in setting up central agricultural research and various sectors related to agribusiness to invest in the agriculture sector.
He said that detailed discussions were held to enhance cooperation between the progressive farmers of Haryana and Congo to identify resources for rice production and facilitate technology transfer.
Prof. Kamboj said that economic development in Congo can be accelerated by adopting the latest technologies related to the agricultural sector. In the meeting, the progressive farmers of Haryana stressed on the latest methods of irrigation, climate change, agricultural equipment, farming methods and increasing mutual coordination to develop sustainable and profitable methods to significantly increase the productivity. In the meeting, emphasis was laid on seed production, agricultural self-reliance, maize production, increasing global demand for organic products, besides reducing food wastage, adding value to agricultural produce, making better storage arrangements and investing in post-harvest processing facilities.
Republic of Congo Ambassador Mr. Wabenga Kalebo Theo said that the meeting between the delegations will give impetus to various ambitious works related to increasing international cooperation with scientists, students and farmers. Advanced technologies and innovations of the University will significantly improve the economy of the Republic of Congo.
On this occasion, Dean, Post Graduate Studies Dr. K.D. Sharma presented a detailed report about the achievements of the University. In the meeting, in-charge of International Affairs Dr. Asha Kwatra, welcomed all the members of the delegation and conducted the programme. Advisor to the Department of Foreign Cooperation, Government of India, Mr. Pawan Chaudhary, Registrar and Director of Extension Education Dr. Balwan Singh Mandal, OSD Dr. Atul Dhingra, Dean, College of Agriculture Dr. S.K. Pahuja, Director of Student Welfare Dr. M.L. Khichar, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Manju Mehta, Dean, College of Community Sciences, Dr. Beena Yadav and Coordinator of International Cell Dr. P Keerthi were present.
