PAU mourns Surjit Patar's demise
The Vice-Chancellor called the Punjabi world an irreparable loss

Ludhiana, May 11, 2024: The entire teaching, non-teaching staff, and students of PAU were in mourning due to the death of Punjabi Shiromani poet Padmashri Dr Surjit Patar.
PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal said in his condolence message that today Punjabi literature, language, and culture have suffered an irreparable loss. He said that Dr. Patar created most of his poetry while staying in PAU. His contribution in deepening the identity of PAU in the world of literature is indelible.
The Vice-Chancellor said that Dr. Surjit Patar was a professor of Punjabi at PAU. In view of his literary achievements, he was also awarded Padma Shri, the highest civilian honor by the Government of India.
His poetry book Darkness Smoldering in the Dark Alphabet won the best prize of the Indian Sahitya Akademi.
Apart from this, Patarji was also awarded with the Saraswati Award. These achievements were a source of pride for the entire PAU family. While praying for the peace of his departed soul, Dr. Gosal also prayed to the Supreme Father God to grant the family the strength to cope.
On this occasion, PAU Registrar Dr Rishipal Singh, Director Research Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director Extension Education Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Additional Director Communication Dr Tejinder Singh Riad and other PAU officials also paid tribute to the departed soul.
