85 organic growers attend training camp at PAU

Ludhiana, May 16, 2024: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a monthly training camp for the members of PAU Organic Farmers’ Club, in which 85 organic growers participated.
Dr SS Walia, Director, School of Organic Farming, advocated the adoption of Integrated Farming System model for agriculture, environment and economic sustainability as well as entrepreneurship through organic farming.
Dr Parminder Singh Shera, Entomologist, highlighted the role of biocontrol agents in the management of insect-pests, and Dr Tosh Garg, a maize expert, focused on seed production of maize.
Dr Gulab Pandove, an organic farming expert, explained the role of biofertilizers in organic farming. Dr Nikhil Ambish Mehta, Horticulture Development Officer, Ludhiana, promoted diversification in organic agriculture through horticulture crops.
Gurmail Singh Gunike, a progressive organic farmer, shared tips for the marketing, processing and packing of organic products.Earlier, Dr AS Sidhu, Agronomist, welcomed the experts and the farmers. Amrit Singh Chahal, President of the club, proposed a vote of thanks.
The camp was held under the guidance of Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication and Programme Director. Varinder Singh from the Communication Centre coordinated the programme.
