Jalandhar/Kapurthala, August 26, 2016: It's time to prepare and develop students to study to become entrepreneur, studying not only to become job seekers. With the same mission I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University conducted an interactive session on ‘Social Media and Entrepreneurship’ for their newly admitted graduates. It was followed by another session on ‘Creating Interesting and Effective Lectures’. For both the sessions keynote speakers were from Australian reputed institutions.
The keynote speaker of the session was Dr. Graeme Salter, Director of Entrepreneurship, International and Engagement with the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics at Western Sydney University, Australia. Another delegate from the same university was Ms. Julia Shelley serving as International Regional Manager with the School of International Student Recruitment. The session was presided over by dignitaries of IKGPTU, Dr. N.P. Singh, Dean Planning and Development, Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu, Dean Academics and Dr. Balkar Singh, Director, Colleges Development.
In the first session, Ms Julia Shelley familiarized the participants with the Western Sydney University that ranks among the top 3 percent of universities worldwide and among top 20 research universities of the world. It was followed by presentation by Dr. Salter on ‘Social Media and Entrepreneurship’. He explained how social media can be used in the modern world for personal brand building, making money and helping the young entrepreneurs in raising money. The use of recent case studies from Australia added another element of interest for the participants.
In the second session, Dr. Salter talked on how lectures can be made more interesting and effective for the students and teachers. Dr Salter, possessing more than 25 years of teaching experience, suggested various ways like asking spontaneous questions from students during lecture, creating and narrating short stories related to concepts to be taught in class, etc to keep the students attentive in class.
The faculty, post-graduate students of IKGPTU main campus as well as PhD scholars participated enthusiastically in the session which was successfully concluded by a vote of thanks by Er. Gaganjot Singh, Assistant Registrar, IKGPTU.
