Chandigarh November 22, 2017, 6th DST Inspire Internship Camp was inaugurated by Professor Prasanta K. Panigrahi, Director, Dean of International Relations and Outreach and Dean of Faculty Affairs, IISER, Kolkata at Panjab University Law Auditorium, here today.
Professor Prasanta K. Panigrahi in his inaugural address on What is matter made of?” highlighted that starting from special theory of relativity to modern quantum physics, light has played a key role in almost all the branches of physics.
Prominent scientists like Newton, Huygens, Young, Einstein, and Pancharatnam have given shadow to the nature of light. Natural phenomena like diffraction,
interference, and polarization are the key phenomena which are explained by the theory of light. We inspire young students to use this theory in modern technologies like quantum technologies to have a better living world, he added.
Major General KAS Bhullar, Project Director Meritorious School, PSEB, Mohali who was Guest of Honor and while addressing, he urged his students to take full advantage of this opportunity and do not hesitate to ask question in Hindi/English or Punjabi. Col G S Chadha (Retd.), Registrar, Panjab University who presided over the function, highlighted the importance of learning and not to give up at any point of their life.
Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairman, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Honorary Coordinator of DST Inspire, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the achievements of PU, UIPS and DST Inspire Program Centre.
Dr. Anurag Kuhad, Program Coordinator, DST Inspire Internship Camp introduced the students to program schedule of the current DST Inspire camp while giving details about the previous camps also. He informed that a total number of 547 meritorious students (361+ girls & 186 boys) specifically from Meritorious Schools of PSEB, Mohali in the rural areas of Punjab are participating in the 6th DST INSPIRE CAMP. Various faculty members and students of Panjab University were also present at the inauguration function.
