Govt. Primary School, Kang, SBS Nagar: poses challenge to private schools
Nawanshahr, July 15, 2018: Government Primary School, situated at village Kang in district SBS Nagar has emerged as a beacon for the other schools in Punjab. It has become a role model for implementation of the “Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab” programme aimed at bringing in qualitative improvement in school education, in its true spirit.
The parents including government school teachers have started getting their wards admitted in this school. During the current academic session, as many as 11 students from the private schools situated at nearby towns Nawanshahr and Rahon have shifted to this school. Presently, 45 students are studying in the school.
Younus Khokhar and Daljit Kaur, government school teachers have also preferred the Govt. Primary School, Kang instead of private schools, to provide quality education to their children.
During a visit few months ago, the Deputy Commissioner, Amit Kumar, has also lauded the gesture of the govt. School teachers for getting their wards admitted in the school as well as the dedicated efforts being put in by the School Incharge, Kavita Sabharwal for shaping the future of the tiny tots.
Kavita Sabharwal, has not only mobilised community support but has herself been contributing towards development of ultra modern infrastructure facilities. The school is equipped with smart class room, well maintained library having 450 books, Mid Day Meal Dining Hall, soap and towels for washing hands, sound system , electric water cooler, refrigerator, inverter, submersible pump and RO system for safe drinking water and above all tastefully decorated school building.
Kavita Sabharwal, School Incharge, an M.A.M.Ed., is herself in the panel of Punjab School education Board for reviewing the syllabus. She has also contributed for designing syllabus and study material for primary classes.
Enumerating distinctive achievements, Kavita said that the result of the school under “Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab” project remained 96.52 % during 2017-18 session and the school was selected among the best schools of the district and got an opportunity to participate at the state level “ Meeting cum Workshop” held at Mohali.
“The school students have been excelling in academic, sports and co-curricular activities at the district and state level. The school has also been selected among the first five schools out of the total 424 for bringing out manually prepared school magazine in the district. The school students got first prize in one act play during the district level celebration dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Punjabi Suba. The school students Harleen Kaur got first prize in Skipping. The school students Reena, Diksha, Sukhpreet, Balika have got positions in the Educational and cultural Competitions. The school students have got first prize in English listening, second in English speaking, third prize in multiplication, and calligraphy at district level competitions under “ Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab” project,” further added Kavita.
“Besides, to inculcate leadership qualities and sense of responsibility among students, the school has been divided into four houses named after colours - “ Red, Green, Blue and Yellow”. Each house has to shoulder the responsibility of managing school activities for one week in a month. The activities included preparing for the morning assembly, proper maintenance of school property , keeping all the things of the schools as well as locking rooms under the observation of the teachers at the time of closing of school”, said Kavita while adding that the school has also been running “Imaandari Di Dukaan” in the school to inculcate honesty among the students.
