Chandigarh, October 11, 2018: “City beautiful Chandigarh has all the qualities to be termed as the first smart city of India as it is the only city which was conceived, planned and designed as a futuristic city way ahead of its time” said Architect and former IAS officer Pardeep Singh who is Infrastructure Advisor, Government of J&K.
The veteran architect was speaking during the valedictory ceremony of the Corbu Fest 2018 which was organized by University Institute of Architecture at Chandigarh University, Gharuan. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Chandigarh presided over the function as the chief guest. UIA had organized the 2 day Corbu Fest 2018 to commemorate 131st Birth Anniversary of the French architect Le-Corbusier who is considered to be pioneer of Modern Architecture and Master Planner for Chandigarh.
“The structure of every sector of Chandigarh is so well planned that even after 52 years of its existence & exponential increase in population, the city seems not to be crowded and the traffic is well managed in comparison to other cities like Bangalore, Gurgaon and Noida” said Architect Pardeep Singh. While addressing the students of UIA at Chandigarh University, Architect Pardeep Singh said, “The society has to recognize the efforts of an Architect as they are responsible to plan and design the modern city which reflects the prosperity of any nation”.
Competitions and model exhibition was organized by the architect students of Chandigarh University in which Nishu Pandey & Shivam Hinduja were adjudged in the Library Re-design event while Shivam Hinduja & Arshdeep Singh won the Sculpture Design competition. Shryansh & Mehak won the Mural Design event while Amandeep Singh won the Photography Designing event. The model making competition was won by Jagrit & Aditi while the team comprising of Ankur, Vaibhav and Lakshay won the Model of Tensile Structure.
