Chandigarh, November 02, 2018: 24 entries from different animation & film institutes and universities including two international entries from prestigious Bournemouth University UK and LMB Photography New Zealand participated in the 7 categories of competitions in Short Film making, Ad Film Making, Documentary and Animated Film in the 2nd Film and Animation Festival organized by Chandigarh University. The purpose of this festival was to showcase highly selective short films, Live Action, and Graphics produced by Animation students and inspire the animators and filmmakers to push the boundaries of their work to the fullest range of expression.
Mr. Ranjit Singh, Renowned Animation film director & Co founder of The Animation Society of India marked his presence as Chief Guest at the CU Animation Film Festival (CUAFF2018) and interacted with the budding animators. Hollywood fame animator Dheeraj Kumar who has worked on internationally acclaimed action movie Transformers conducted a workshop on Sketching in Animation during the event.
While discussing the scope of animation as a career in India & Abroad Mr.Ranjit said, “The growing importance and acceptance of animation as an integral part of film making has resulted in opening of new job opportunities for Indian Animation Experts all around the world”. Currently the Indian Animation Industry is growing at a rate of 16.4% annually and it is expected to generate revenue of Rs. 131.7 billion for the country, he added.
Mr. Dheeraj Kumar advised the students to explore their skills by creating new fictional character to add uniqueness into the world of animation. “History in the form of animation is easily understandable and it also helps a student to explore new characters” He stressed on the role of animation in the medical and corporate sector along with the entertainment industry.
Results of the Competitions:-
People's University of Media Studies, Delhi won first position in the documentary film category for their film 'Dark World' highlighting the evil of sexual harassment, while in the Live Action Category team from Madurai Kamarajar University, Tamil Nadu won first position for their film ‘Kadavulium’ which was a fantasy film based on wildlife. In the VFX category team Chandigarh University bagged first position for their film ‘Tekimoge’ which was based on student-teacher relationship.
‘The Joy of Giving’ film from Bournemouth University, UK won in the animation category, while the game designing competition was won by CU student Praveen Kumar. Nikhil won the first prize while Yani won the second in the Comic-Con competition.
