Chandigarh, November 15, 2018: Lifters from Chandigarh University Rashmi and Manisha won 5 Gold & 1 Silver medals during the Senior and Junior National Power-lifting Championship 2018. Hailing from Sonipat, both Rashmi & Manisha represented Haryana State at National Power-lifting Championship 2018. While wining the overall Gold Medal in the 72 kg, Rashmi broke two National Records in the Senior Power-lifting Championship which included lifting an overall weight of 526 kg and 201 kg in the dead-lift category. The previous national record was held by player from Railways in 2014: which was 520 kg overall lift while 200 kg in the deadlift category.
While wining the overall Gold in the 57 kg category of the Junior Power-lifting Championship Manisha broke national record in the deadlift category by lifting 172.5 kg which was previously 167.5 kg held by Railway player. This record breaking performance by Manisha enabled her to win the Strongest Women of India title in the Championship.
Rashmi bagged other golds in the 72 kg category by lifting a weight of 120 kg in the Benchpress, 201 kg Deadlift while she won silver in Squat 205 kg which totaled to 526 kg overall weight lift. Lifters from 20 states participated in Senior National Power-lifting Championship while lifters from 16 states participated in the Junior Powerlifting Championship organized by Power-lifting Federation of India at Patiala.
