Chandigarh, January 15, 2019: In order to celebrate the valor and sacrifice of the soldiers, Chandigarh University commemorated 71st Army day with Pomp and Pride. The Army Day is celebrated on January 15 as on this day in 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa took over as the first Indian commander-in-chief of the Indian Army. The event witnessed the presence of Col. BPS Thakur, The Commanding Officer, 23 Punjab Battalion NCC who is himself serving Army from past 20 years. He was at the university to boost the zeal and enthusiasm of NCC Cadets. While briefing about the event NCC Officer, Chandigarh University, Captain Gurpreet Singh said, “Army day is celebrated every year at Chandigarh University and this year we have honored Grade A cadets Lokesh, Vikrant pathania, Ajay Sihag, Rigzin Dholkar while Grade B Cadets Jolin D Parekh with certificates.
While sharing his experience with the Indian Army, Col BPS Thakur said, “Indian Army is the most courageous and honest Army in the World and the undeterred contribution of Indian soldiers can never be questioned.” If students want to have a disciplined life then they should join NCC as there are ample opportunities to learn new things, he added while encouraging the students to join forces.
While sharing his journey of entering Forces via NDA the officer said, “Equality and unity are the hallmarks of Indian Army. The opportunity to represent India on a national platform at Parades during Republic day celebrations every year and global representation through youth exchange program is something which is a unique opportunity for a NCC Cadet.Also, NCC offers direct entry into the defense forces; Army, Navy and Air force and students should take utmost benefit out of it.”
