Maharashtra to make Marathi language compulsory in all schools
Mumbai, June 21, 2019: The Maharashtra government is going to amend the law to make compulsory teaching Marathi language in all the schools of the state which will include ICSE and CBSE schools.
Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister said in case the any of the school don’t tech Marathi language to students, an action will be taken against the defaulting schools.
Necessary amendment in the existing law will also be made as per the need to ensure that Marathi language is taught in all the schools in the state, he said.
Presently, there is a government order that schools should teach Marathi language as a subject up to Class 8 and as an option subject in Classes 9 and 10 but the was not being implemented by Central Board Schools.
