Nawanshahr, December 06, 2016: Deputy Commissioner cum District Electoral Officer, Vipul Ujwal has asked the SDMs and other election related officers to implement the Punjab Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act-1997 in letter and spirit. "Though the Model Code of Conduct is yet to come into force, but the publicity material from government and semi government properties could be removed under Section 3 of the Punjab Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act-1997", said the DC while adding that no political party can use the public property for its election campaigning by pasting pamphlets, putting banners or hoardings, if any party found violating the directions will be booked under The Punjab Prevention of Defacement of Property Act 1997. He directed the SDMs cum returning officers to immediately remove all the banners, posters and hoarding from public places and to send the legal notices to violators. He also asked the SDMs to convene a meeting with the printing press owners to make them aware that the print line of their press as well as number of posters / pamphlets published is mandatory as per the directions of the Election Commission. The DC also appealed to the representatives of all political parties to ensure the implementations of the directions of Election Commission of India and not to use the public places for their publicity.
