Chandigarh, March 23,2019: Akshay Kumar's Kesari has become the second biggest opener of the actor with 21.06 crore on its first day. The movie based on the battle of Saragarhi is likely to cross 50 crores on day two after garnering earth-shattering numbers on its opening day.
Movie is a depiction of the story of 21 Sikhs who were attacked by 10000 to 12000 Afghans. The Sikhs led by Havildar Ishar Singh, a role played by Akshay, chose to fight the death.
One of history’s most stunning last stands, the battle of Saragarhi featured valour that warrants a legend. On 12 September 1897, a mere twenty one Sikh soldiers defied thousands of Afghan tribesmen attacking the strategic military outpost of Saragarhi in the Khyber Pass.The battle was fought in Saragarhi, now in Pakistan.
The movie has now entered his list of Top 5 highest opening grossers.
While the first place in Akshay's Top 5 highest grossing openers remain unbeatable with Gold topping the list (25.25 crores), it has managed to surpass the other 4 – Singh Is Bliing – 20.67 crores, 2.0(Hindi) – 20.25 crores, Housefull 3 –15.21 crores, Brothers – 15.20 crores.
Meanwhile, among the other top movies that have performed well at the box office include: Uri, Manikarnika in January, Gully Boy and Total Dhamaal in February to Kesari in March. Among those crossed Rs 10 cr on its opening day, Kesari did the business of 21.50 cr, Gully Boy earned 19.40 cr, Total Dhamal Rs 16.50 and Captain Marvel was at 13.01 cr.
