Veteran actor, playwright Girish Karnad passes away at 81
Bengaluru, June 10, 2019: Veteran Actor and playwright Girish Raghunath Karnad passed away at a Bengaluru hospital today morning. He was 81-year-old.
He was born in Matheran in 1938. He won the President’s Golden Lotus Award for his acting and screenwriting debut in a 1970 release called Samskara. He also acted in a television show titled Malgudi Days playing the role as a father.
He also served as the Director of the Film and Television Institute of India (1974-75) and Chairman of the Sangree Natak Akademi, the National Academy of the Performing Ats (1983-93).
Girish Karnad was a Padma Shri awardee as well as Padma Bhushan for literature.
