In the first round, Sunny made two videos and submitted them online and he was called for the second round to Chandigarh. After successfully passing the second round he was called to Delhi for the third round and then to Mumbai.
In Mumbai, during the Studio Round, renowned musician Anu Malik, who is one of the judges of the show, praised Sunny and said that he was a reincarnation of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In this round he won the Golden Mike and progressed to the Theatre Round.
Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing Harsimrat Badal also praised Sunny and wrote this on her Facebook page: “When I saw the performance of Sunny, a Bathinda resident on Indian Idol, I was awed. At a tender age and despite limited means, he has honed his skill beautifully. Sunny is an example for our youth, who need to identify and channelize their talent in the right direction. I wish the young maestro all the best and hope to see him singing his way to glory”.
