Chandigarh, May 22, 2024: Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal attacked the Centre over Indian students trapped in hostile conditions in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishek.
Reacting to the news report on the plight of Indian students, Sukhbir Badal wrote on X "I am shocked by the response of Centre govt to the plight of nearly 10,000 students trapped in hostile conditions in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishek. Over 1,000 of these unfortunate students are from Punjab. They are running out of food and other basic necessities for survival as they are targeted by hostile locals. But our embassy has described the situation as “normal”. How insensitive! These students are crying out for help as they are not able to get out even to reach the airport to fly back home. Would our rulers call this a “normal” situation if one of their own children was among those trapped? Is it normal to be surrounded by hostile crowds and be denied access even to food for survival? I strongly urge the rulers in Delhi to realize the gravity of the crisis and to take emergency measures to save our students and bring them back home,"
Reportedly, there have been several incidents of mob violence against foreign students in Bishkek since last week.
