Chandigarh, April 23, 2020: The 6-month-old girl, who was suffering from congenital heart defect and had tested coronavirus positive on Wednesday, passed away today.
Daughter of a labourer residing in Phagwara, Ritika was admitted to PGI on April 9 for heart surgery.

A patient named Ritika D/O Sh Ramu aged 6 months female from Phagwara Punjab was admitted in PGIMER on 9.4.20 with congenital malformations of Atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, patent ductal arteriosis and coarctation of aorta. Patient was very sick and not fit for surgical interventions for reported pathologies. She was kept on ventilator and required medication.
Patient’s status deteriorated over the days. She was tested for COVID19 on 21.4.20 also where she was reported COVID positive and was shifted to NHE. Patient’s status continued to deteriorate further and she expired at 12:47pm on 23.04.2020. The cause of death was reported to be refractory shock, pulmonary artery hypertension and COVID19.
The last rituals of the deceased has been coordinated through Red Cross UT Chandigarh. All the patients contacts viz. family members and healthcare workers have been reported negative for COVID-19 and all have been quarantined.
