April.28, 2020: The outbreak of COVID-19 in adjoining Rajpura town has cast its shadow on Sirhind town also as the district administration has decided to close Sirhind Fruit and Vegetable market for a week as large number of vegetable vendors from Rajpura, Mandi Gobindgarh and other towns have started coming to Sirhind market to purchase vegetables. Rajpura has become a hot spot for COVID and large numbers of positive cases have been reported and the administration does not want to take any chance, so as a precautionary measure the Subzi Mandi has been closed, said Gulshan Rai Bobby Chairman Market Committee Sirhind. He said that this decision has been taken after the consultation with the wholesale commission agents and vendors.
He said that earlier two Jamaati Women who came from Aurangabad were reported positive and now they have been cured and discharged since then no positive case have been reported and they want district to be COVID free, so this harsh step has been taken in the interest of the people. He said Market Committee will ensure the supply of vegetables in a planned manner.
