JALANDHAR, May 02, 2020: The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department has appealed the farmers to purchase only certified and recommended Varieties of the paddy crop.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Surinder Singh said that as per recommendations of Punjab Agriculture University, PR-129, PR-122, PR-128, PR-121, PR-127 and PR-124 varieties can be purchased and the crop would be ready to harvest in 135 or 145 days.
Similarly for Basmati, the farmers can buy PUSA Basmati 1121, PUSA Basmati 1718, PUSA Basmati 1637 and Pusa Basmati 1509. He advised the farmers to not to use PUSA 44 variety as this take long time for ripening which may delay the sowing of the wheat crop.
Further, Dr Singh informed that Government of India has also, suggest various hybrid varieties of the seeds for the paddy crop including Ganga, PA 6129, Sahyadri 4, VNR 203, HRI 178, HRI 180, Sava 134 and 27P22.
He said that the farmers can purchase these certified seeds from block offices of the department as per their demand or from authorized dealers by taking a purchase bill.
