Chandigarh, May 5, 2020: The Punjab Government is likely to open liquor shops in the next couple of days. It is also proposed to start home delivery of liquor in the state.
It is learned that the green light has been given in principle but the final decision on the date of opening of shops and home delivery will be taken by Punjab Cabinet, which will meet on May 6.
Talking to Babushahi, a senior Punjab official said that a plan is needed to be formulated as to how to manage crowds and long queues witnessed in other cities outside liquor vends yesterday as in Punjab the liquor shops will be open for four hours only.
That is why the proposal to home deliver liquor is being considered as this will reduce congestion at liquor shops, however no formal order hasn’t been issued in this regard as yet.
It is also learned that if such a decision is taken then the supply of liquor to homes will be done only by the licenced contractors.
