1200 migrant workers leave for Lucknow in third special train
Ferozepur, May 6, 2020: The railways is running the trains as per the requirement of the states and accepting only the registered and recognized passengers by the government, making it clear that no other passenger group or individual should come at the railway station, said Rajesh Aggarwal, DRM, Ferozepur Rail Division.
Divulging with the details, DRM said, one more special train with passengers stranded in lockdown on board was flagged off from Jalandhar City to Gajipur City on Tuesday night. Another train from Jalandhar left for Lucknow (UP) today afternoon with 1200 passengers. This was the third train within 24 hours that left the city for transportation of migrant workers to their native places.
Earlier one such special train has left for Daltonganj via Saharnpur and Lucknow carrying 1188 migrants when enthusiasm and excitement were seen on their faces for going back to their homes amid lockdown to join their family.
The entire expenditure of Rs.5.22 lakh of the train has been borne by the state government.
He said, all adequate arrangements were made outside the railway station for the convenience of the migrant workers registered for boarding the train besides ensuring of wearing of masks, standing in a queue at a distance, the limited number of passengers in one coach.
To avoid the rush at one point, the migrants were transferred from various transit points at Balle Balle farms, Khalsa Sr. Sec. School and GND University college via buses to the city railway station. Besides a team of health department officials was also deployed to ensure medical screening of every passenger boarding the train.
RPF and GRP jawans were deployed to escort the train for the safety of the passengers at their destinations.
In the coming time, more such trains would be arranged as per the requirement of the government to be destinations like Lucknow, Varanasi Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj-Allahabad, Sultanpur, Katni –MP, and Jharkhad.
