200th Shramik Express Train leaves Amritsar for Maharashtra, 2.13 lakh migrant workers shifted from Punjab
Ferozepur, May 19, 2020: The Railways continuing the operation of Shramik Express trains from Ferozepur division as per the demand of the state government for shifting of migrant workers to their home towns in other states, in the wake of corona pandemic, today moved 200th train from Amritsar to Miraz in Maharashtra, carrying 642 passengers.
DRM Ferozepur Rajesh Aggarwal informed that out of the 200 trains moved so far, 163 are from Ferozepur division while 37 trains from Ambala division. Today, 175th special train was from Ludhiana to Jonpur and one from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Maharaja Chhatarsal station (MP) and from Gurdaspur to Gorakhpur besides one from Jalandhar to Trivunatpuram (Kerala) for South India.
Sharing more details, DRM said, as of now, 177 Shramik special trains have moved from Ferozepur division which includes 61 Jalandhar, 89 Ludhiana, 19 Amritsar, 6 Ferozepur Cantt and one each from Gurdaspur and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra for UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, MP, Chattisgarh, AP, WB, Maharashra and Kerala, ferrying around 2.13 lakh passengers to their destinations.
DRM said, all the three agencies – railways, district administration and health department – have jointly made all adequate required arrangements as per the Covid-19 protocol, for transporting the migrant workers, to their home districts safely, without taking any risk at any level, before boarding the train and on way food and water arrangements etc. Even the RPF and GRP jawans were deployed with each train for the safe journey up to the destinations.
