May.20, 2020: Amardeep Singh Dharni Former President District Bar Association cum official spokesman of SAD(B) said that it is unfortunate that the ration kits being sent by the State Government during the curfew period for the distribution to the needy amid COVID threat are still lying as it is in a locked room in Municipal Council Bassi Pathana office though curfew has been lifted, where as the needy and helpless poor people are making rounds of the council office to get the ration. He brought the matter to the notice of the media and SDM Bassi Pathana, who assured to distribute it within a day.
When the media persons went to Council office the poor people were standing in scorching heat outside the council office and praying to the officials to give them ration sent by the government as they have nothing to eat and their children will die with starvation. They alleged that they had been making rounds of the council office but there is no one to heed their requests. They said perhaps they are waiting for tragedy to occur.
Executive Officer of the Council was not available in the office and no employee was ready to talk to media and answer their queries.
When contacted Pavitar Singh SDM Bassi Pathana, he said that he is not aware about the ration kits still lying in council office and said Mr. Dharni has brought the issue in his notice and assured that these kits will be distributed within a day. He said that State government had sent four thousand kits and he managed two thousand kits with his own resources and from NGOs. He said only approximately 350 kits were given to EO Municipal Council for distribution in council wards. He said he distributed six thousand kits in three days. He called upon the EO on cell and directed him to distribute by tomorrow positively.
