PESCO’s two ex-servicemen held for smuggling in jail of mobiles, habit-forming drugs
Ferozepur, May 26, 2020: The Central Jails in the state are in headlines with the recovery of mobiles, drugs, bidis etc. which has put a question mark on the security arrangements at the checkpoints of the jail.
On a tip-off, during the search operation on Monday, two mobiles and habit-forming tablets have been recovered from the jail inmates. Two employees of Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation – PESCO, have also been arrested, named during the preliminary investigation, for arranging the smuggling in of mobiles, habit-forming drugs to jail inmates.
The Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation is – registered through GeM - for the provision of security personnel and other manpower on an outsourced basis.
The vigilant staff of jail has foiled the attempt of use of mobiles in the jail premises with the frequent recoveries of mobiles from inmates and inside the jail premises during the search operations and sometimes on the tip-off. As per the crime report released, a case on the complaint of Shiv Chand, Deputy Superintendent, Central Jail has been registered under Sections 52-A, 42 of IPC, 22/61/85 of Prisons Act and NDPS Act against under-trial prisoner Gopal Chand, two PESCO employees – Rajinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh and son of Gopal Chand inmate.
Divulging with details, Jagdip Singh, SI who has been appointed as Inquiry Officer in the case said, during the search operation two mobiles of Samsung brand keypad along with two batteries, one mobile of Blackzen key pad with batter but without SIM Card along with 36 habit-forming tablets, were recovered from Gopal Chand, under trial prisoner.
He further said, during the preliminary investigation, Gopal Chand had admitted that the mobiles and drugs were arranged by two employees of PESCO through his son.
