Shopkeepers warned of severe action for selling expired food items
Food and Safety team officials destroy expiry date food and drinks products in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 27, 2020: Officials of Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Wednesday conducted raids in various shops in the cantonment area and seized expired soft drinks of leading brands that were on sale and destroyed the stocks.
A team led by District Designated Officer Dr. Anita and Food Safety team officials inspected the shops and found the expired soft drinks kept for sale.
During the inspection, the food items like cake, limca, fruity, real juice, etc at Madan Sweets Sho and S.K.Sweets Shops were found to be of expiry and instead of seizing the items, officials destroyed them by emptying the soft drinks on the spot.
Checking at some karyana shops was conducted and expired products like biscuits, coke, bhujia etc. were also destroyed there and then.
Shopkeepers were also warned by the officials not to sell expired products as they would face severe action if they did so adding that they must follow the advisory issued by the health department relating to Covid-19 to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Though adulterated food items, expired products and food items are kept in the open and sold in eateries in the city, no action has been taken against the shopkeepers. Consuming products continues to cause health issues to consumers.
