Locust Threat: Moga administration on alert, ready to contain any locust attack
Moga, May 28, 2020: Keeping in view the locust attack in Rajasthan, the district administration Moga is on alert and all necessary arrangements have been made to tackle it.
Deputy Commissioner Moga, Sandeep Hans said while presiding over meeting of district administration officials to oversee arrangements for tackling the problem. He said that teams have been formed at block level and duties have been allocated to different departments. Office of Deputy Registrar Cooperative Society has been directed to make arrangements for spray pumps and machinery required.
All Sub Divisional Magistrates have been directed to keep fire brigade vehicles ready round the clock. Police have been directed to maintain law and order during the operation and make proper arrangements for search lights. Block Development and Panchayat Officer will form a committee of 15 healthy and strong NREGA labourers whose services can be taken at the time of need. Similarly, the employees of market committee will make arrangements for tanks filled with water and proper running tubewells to facilitate filling of tanks.
He added that teams have also been formed at village level in every village which will include panchayat secretary, sarpanch and other responsible people of the village. During the operation health department will send teams of experts to medically help those who might be affected due to spraying of pesticides. Every tehsil's executive officer will make sure that the fire tenders and fire brigade staff is present round the clock to deal with any kind of exigency in this context.
Deputy Commissioner directed all the departments to be ready for the exigency and in case the locusts attack, every department should be ready as per the defined role. All have been asked to report any issue regarding locust attack to the district administration on priority basis. He appealed district's every farmer, non government organizations and organizations to remain alert and help in times of need.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Balwinder Singh said that agriculture department has enough stock of pesticides to combat the locust attack. Assistant Plant Safety Officer Dr Jaswinder Singh Brar gave information about the locust attack, its combating and management. He said that if the locusts attack, they can be removed by creating high decibel noise. But if the attack happens after 4 pm, no noise should be created and rather it should be allowed to settle down so that during night hours it can be killed by spraying pesticides on it.
Prominent among others present at meeting DDPO Jagjivan Singh Bal, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Jaswant Singh, SP (headquarter) , Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Kuldeep Kumar, officers of various other departments and municipal councils were also present.
