Punjab Government issued advisory to tackle Locust attack
Chandigarh, May 29, 2020 : The Punjab government has issued an advisory for farmers to tackle locust attack, if any, in their fields and areas. It also directed Agriculture department officials to constitute teams in the blocks to tackle any such attack.
It called upon farmers to coordinate with agriculture department officials and inform them of any such attack if takes place in their areas. It also informed that this locust takes rest after sunset and flies after sunrise.
Meanwhile Secretary Agriculture Kahan Singh Pannu has directed all the Chief Agriculture officers in the districts to formulate 8 to 10 teams in each district under Block level agriculture officers. These teams will enlist 30 to 50 members each comprising of Beldars, workers and labourers. As and when information is received regarding arrival of Locust in an area of the district, Chief Agriculture officer shall immediately deploy requisite number of teams in the area where Locust has settled.
