June 03, 2020: A joint team of district Excise and Taxation department and CIA Staff Sirhind on a tip off raided a farm house at village Bhamarsi Jer and recovered 80 cases of 555 Gold Whisky meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh bottled by Chandigarh firm under licence Gurdaspur distillery. The team also arrested two persons whereas one managed to escape.
Interestingly the farm house is located near to the authorised wine shop of Chadha Group falling in Jallah rural Circle and the persons who escaped is working as salesman on that wine shop.
Amneet Kondal SSP said that police has launched a campaign against liquor smugglers and people are coming forward to provide information. She said that Police got a tip off that Kamaljit Singh alias Bachi resident of village Lohar Majra Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurjant Singh alias Janta resident of Taran Tarn and Sukhwinder Singh alias Jassi working as salesman on wine shop of Jallah rural group are involved in the smuggling of illicit liquor. They smuggle the liquor meant for sale in other states and store at a farm house at village Bhamarsi Jer and sell through Sukhwinder Singh alias Jassi working as salesman on wine shop at very higher rates in Jallah circle if the raid is conducted the illicit liquor can be recovered. She said that police party headed by JS Tiwana DSP (I), SHO CIA Staff Sirhind and the Excise department officials conducted the raid and recovered 80 cases of liquor meant for sale in Arunachal Pardesh and arrested two smugglers, whereas one managed to flee and FIR was registered against them and manhunt has been launched to nab him.
Sunita Batra Assistant Excise & Taxation Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib said that the department succeeded in nabbing the liquor smugglers and recovered the illicit liquor meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh bottled by Chandigarh firm under licence of distillery in Gurdaspur. She said FIR has been registered and two arrested.
Dr. Tejinder Garg ETO Excise, who is supervising the operation, said that team led by Satinder Malhi Excise Inspector and from CIA staff Sirhind recovered 80 cases of whisky during raid and arrested two persons, one managed to escape. He said as they came to know about the involvement of the salesman of the wine shop, the stock at wine shops was inspected and a manhunt was launched to nab him. He said as it was smuggled liquor not meant for sale in Punjab, the loss of Punjab Excise revenue is there.
