Amritsar, June 04, 2020 : The Department of Lifelong Learning was established in 1985 with an objective of providing quality vocational education to the youth. The main focus of providing vocational education has been to make the youth, especially the women coming from weaker section of society, self reliant.
Over a period of time, the department has been making efforts to upgrade the different syllabi, to keep pace with changing times. These efforts of department have brought very encouraging results. It will always be an endeavour of the department to provide latest training and conducive environment to the students so as to develop their talents in the best possible ways. There are six diploma courses run in the department (Certificate Course in Dress Designing, Cutting & Tailoring; Diploma in Cosmetology; Diploma in Graphics & Web Designing; Diploma in Computer Applications; Diploma in Fashion Designing; Diploma in Fashion & Textile Designing) and six certificate courses of six months durations are (Certificate Course in Cutting & Tailoring; Certificate Course in Beauty Culture; Certificate Course in Web Designing; Certificate Course in AutoDesk & Revit Modelling; Training programme in IELTS; Certificate course in English Speaking & Communication Skills).
With the demand of the students as well as emerging trends of the present times one year diploma course in Graphics & Web Designing, six months courses in AutoDesk & Revit Modelling and Training programme in IELTS have been introduced from current academic session. The students are made fully equipped with various skills like personal grooming, nail art, skin care, facial, salon management, hair care, spa treatments, nutrition and health fitness in cosmetology and beauty culture courses. In courses of cutting tailoring and fashion designing, the students are given hands on practical training on wardrobe management, boutique training, traditional embroideries like Phulkari, Chikankari, Kashmiri, Kantha, Sindhi, Kutch of Gujarat, Kasuti etc.
In Fashion & Textile Designing course, students are taught decorative techniques, Hand Painting, Block Printing Batik/Tie & Dye, Screen Printing, Stencil Printing, Nozzle/Match stick printing along with many embroidery stitches like Stem stitch, Chain stitch, Running stitch, Back stitch, Feather stitch, Button hole stitch, French knot stitch, Lazy Daisy stitch, Couching etc.
In computer related courses, the students learn different computer languages, web site construction, photoshop, coral draw and become well versed with all the applications related to office work. In addition the students are escorted to different textile industries as well as leading boutiques.
The workshops on different topics like bridal make up, Pakistani make up, herbal cosmetics, pidilite etc are conducted. The Free Lancer from Lakme and other Salon of Amritsar come and train the students in different new techniques used in beauty parlours. It is pertinent to mention that the fee structure for these courses has been kept very nominal in order to make them cost effective and affordable for students especially girls of rural area.
The practical training imparted through these courses enables the young generation to stand on their feet both socially and financially. They can become entrepreneur by starting their own business and give employment to others or work as freelancer.These courses also enable the learners to enhance their existing skills.
