Bus services resume within Punjab but not many takers
Ferozepur, June 10, 2020: Bus services for the public have resumed in Punjab, after its suspension in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. Buses plied on select routes as point-to-point service between major cities and district headquarters with 50% occupancy in non-containment zones within the state, but still there are not many takers.
Following the normalization of the situation, the bus service has been restored by the Transport Department for six routes from Ferozepur to provide transport services to the people under Mission Fateh, through which about 450 people have availed the benefit of short and long-distance bus facilities.
Giving details, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Kulwant Singh said that the transport services have been started only after the situation returned to normal. At present bus service has been started from Ferozepur to Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Zira to Chandigarh and Zira to Ferozepur route.
He said that about 450 passengers have already availed services on these routes. He said that special attention was being paid to the rules of social distance in buses, wearing of masks, checking of temperature and hand sanitizer. The passengers were being transported in the buses with only half capacity so that there would be no congestion in the buses.
DC said that under Mission Fateh, apart from gradually normalizing the situation, the people were being sensitized to follow the instructions issued by the government. He said that Mission Fateh could be made a success with the collective efforts of all, so it was important for the people to follow the necessary rules regarding social distance and wearing of masks while going out of the house.
