Amritsar, June 23, 2020 : Department of Human Genetics of Guru Nanak Dev University, Conducted a Research on “The Genetic Diversity in the Population of Punjab and Susceptibility of Cancer and other Diseases due to exposure of Agriculture Chemicals”.
Research Conducted by Prof.(Dr.) A.J.S. Bhanwer and Dr. Kawaljit Kaur in their study on “The Extent of Genetic differentiation in different Indo-European Speaking Groups of Punjab” revealed Genetic Proximity among different endogamous groups of Punjab. The origination of An Ancestral State Y-HG Q was suggested only in Asia. Studies of these Ethnic Groups showed some Markers from MHC class 1 Genomic region linked with Immune Response Systems that were non-existent in other Indian Population.
In a Study by Prof.Vasudha Sambyal and Dr.Kamlesh Guleria, an association with increased and decreased risk of “Breast and Esophagel Cancer” of 42 inherited variants in 16 Cancer Susceptibility Genes involved in Hypoxia, Angiogenesis, DNA Repair and Inflammatory Pathways, was reported. Five Novel Variants in VEGFA Gene, reported first time in India, have been included in International Data Base on NCBI, National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S.A.
Experimental studies on “Stem Cells on the effect of most widely used Organophosphate Pesticide Chlorpyrifos (CPF) on Skeletal System” revealed that even non-toxic levels disrupt cellular functions and affect bone quality. In north Indian population inherited variants of PLINI, CD, ADN and ADPOQ Genes were associated with bone deterioration and osteoporosis.
The Emphasis of these reports also focused on Unique Genetic Structure of population of Punjab and its application in Forensics as well
