Nawanshahr, June 29, 2020: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President and former Lok Sabha Member Sunil Jakhar today alleged that Modi government has proved to be a government of moneylenders, for moneylenders and by moneylenders and it has completely cornered Jai Jawan and Jai Kisan.
Jakhar along with MLAs Mr Angad Singh Mr Darshan Lal Mangupur, Punjab Youth Congress President Mr Barindar Singh Dhillon, District Planning Committee Chairman Mr Satbir Singh Palli Jhikki, Former MLA Mr Tarlochan Singh Sundh and other leaders pulled the tractor with rope from ITI to DC office.
He said that those who claim to double the farmer's income and implement the Swaminathan report told the court with an affidavit that we cannot do it. Mr Jakhar said that how much the farmers lost due to corona, all the labourers went back, the cost of sowing paddy increased from two to three thousand per acres.
He said that when the price of diesel was Rs 63 during of time of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while crude oil was priced at 104 and now today when the crude oil is $40, the price of diesel is Rs 80 per litre.
Mr Jakhar alleged that the farmers are being made a fool by NDA government.
“I have not come to do any drama by pulling the farmer's tractor as a cart due to the skyrocketing diesel prices. In Punjab, when freight vehicles were taxed, then the tractor was declared as a farmer's cart but then it did not become farmers’ cart but now it has turned into cart due to high price of diesel”, Jakhar alleged.
On the statement of Union Agriculture Minister Mr Narendra Singh Tomar that MSP would stay despite ordinances, he said that the real question is whether the government will procure or not. He said that the maize farmers are getting Rs 400 or Rs 600 per quintal in the markets despite Rs 1850 minimum support price announced by it.
He said that during Corona, the farmers of Punjab produced 1.27 crore MT of wheat and the Punjab government increased the number of mandis from 1850 to 4000 and procured every single grain.
He said that the bumper wheat crop was to be appreciated by the government but by enforcing Agriculture Ordinances, the farmers’ future was called into question.
He further said that the union government is deaf but it is not dumb at all. PPCC President told that Prime Minister gave an hour-and-a-half speech on Sunday in his 'Mann Ki Baat'. He said that June 15 was a dark day in the history of India when 20 of our soldiers were martyred in Ladakh.
He said that Congress party always stood for the soldiers and farmers of the country and it would continue to protest against the anti-people policies of the government.
Later, he handed over a memorandum addressed to the union government for seeking relief in the prices of petrol-diesel and withdraw agriculture ordinances to the DC Dr. Sgena Aggarwal.
