Chandigarh, July 3, 2020: The Punjab government today assured Punjab and Haryana High Court that no breakdown in law and order in the state will be allowed in light of phone calls being made to people, including journalists, in Punjab by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), calling on everyone in the state to support Referendun 2020 and the Khalistan movement.
The matter came up for hearing after public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by advocate Vikramjit Singh Brar in the high court asking it to intervene in the matter and action be taken against people involved in making these calls.
Haryana government also joined it in the hearing today, although they were not made a party.
In his reply, the counsel for Punjab government said 354 Whatsapp groups being run by anti-India forces have been banned and social media accounts of many people who indulge in anti-India propaganda have been blocked. Three FIRs have also been registered in this regard, he added.
Additional Solicitor General of india Satya Pal Jain appearing on behalf of union govt told the court that on request of Punjab government have issued a notification in which some Khalistan supporters including Pannun have been declared terrorists.He said that Centre will extend full help to the state governments to tackle such anti-national activities.
