Samrala, July 9: The body of Palwinder Singh, an Army jawan posted in Ladakh, has been was found.
He was untraceable after the vehicle he was driving fell into a river in Drass sector on June 22.
His mortal remains will be cremated at Doraha near his ancestral village Rampur on Friday.
Palwinder Singh was going from Mani Marg to Kargil in a jeep with Lieutenant Subhan Ali, when the jeep suddenly fell into the Dras river.
The Army had been searching for them since that day. Although the jeep was pulled out of the river three days later, Palwinder and Ali were swept away.
The entire village, including the family, was praying for the safe return of the soldier, but today, as soon as the family was informed by the army that Palwinder's body had been found, a pall of gloom descended on the village. Son of a retired armyman, Palwinder joined the army in 2010.
