August 03, 2020: It is a matter of great concern that the people are not heeding to the requests of the district police and civil administration and continue to violate the guidelines issued to control the spread of COVID and the police had no other option except to penalize them, which is evident from the fact that police have collected approximately Rs.71 Lakh as fine from the people majority of them not wearing the masks. Now the police have launched an awareness drive along with the fine and the violators will be educated and masks will be provided free of cost, said Amneet Kondal SSP, while launching the drive.
She said the alertness of the district police can be judged from the facts that a huge collection of fines has been collected, though Fatehgarh Sahib has a small territory compared to other districts. She said police has challaned 15927 persons for not wearing masks and collected Rs. 69,69700/- as fine. She said 99 were challaned for spitting at public places and Rs.11,200/- were collected as fine, for violating social distancing 41 were challaned and Rs. 86000/- were collected as fine. She said that 499 FIRs were registered for violating 188IPC 750 accused were arrested and 180 vehicles were impounded,
She said that besides this 3437 liter illicit liquor, 1275 Kg Lahan and registered 92 FIRs under Excise Act and arrested 98 allegedly for bootlegging & illegal sale of liquor especially during lock down period and police also booked 23 persons under Goonda Act.
She said that under Mission Fateh police are working round the clock to save the people from covid-19 by risking their own lives and many police personnel & officials have been tested positive, while performing their duties, so the people should co-operate and obey the guidelines.
