Police tighten noose on sale of illegal liquor in Ferozepur, booked 13 persons under Excise Act
Ferozepur, August 4, 2020: The illicit liquor production has gone unabated in the district and baffled the police department especially after the incident at Tarn Taran, Amritsar and Ludhiana that triggered the wave of deaths in the hooch case to 108 with 82 deaths in Tarn Taran and 13 each in Amritsar and Batala.
SSP Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh has directed the police officers to tighten noose against the persons involved in the illicit liquor trade.
He said, working on the tip-offs, the Ferozepur police have geared up its machinery to nab the anti-social elements working in this business in the different areas in the district and put its hands on booking 13 persons in 12 different cases under the Excise Act and arrested 4 persons. They had been operating in the areas of Ferozepur Cantt, Arif Ke, Guruharsahai, Mallanwala, Zira, Shera, Manjwala, Pir Mohammad in Makhu, Baghewala, Sohangarh Rattewala, Ghor Mohalla, Jatta Mohalla in Zira.
During the raids, the police have also recovered the illicit liquor to the tune of 230 ltrs and 200 bottles. The extraction of illicit liquor is going on unabated in this border district and in the past more than 2 lakh liter illicit liquor was seized and destroyed. Earlier also in the past, a huge quantity of illicit liquor was recovered and destroyed in the district besides making arrests, under the 'Operation Red Rose' jointly by the police and excise officials.
All the alleged accused have been booked under Sections 61/1/14 of Excise Act and further investigations are on, with appointing of Inquiry Officer in each case.
SSP sought cooperation from people to apprise about the spots or places, where illicit liquor trade is taking place for taking instant actions. He said, no one would be spared at any cost and the accused involved in this trade would be dealt with a heavy hand to wipe out this menace. SSP directs police officers to tighten noose against illicit liquor trade.
