Chandigarh, August 6, 2020: After the Punjab Cabinet asked for the expulsion of Rajya Sabha MPs Partap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dullo from Congress party both have issued the following joint statement:
"Just like the registration of false FIRs in Punjab during the 80s and 90s which used to be registered after a delay of about 48 hours, the Cabinet’s press note has also been issued today for a meeting that took place yesterday.
We were informed by cabinet colleagues of the Chief Minister that no discussion took place regarding the statement made by us. The contents of the press note released by the Government of Punjab today are an afterthought, added in 24 hours after the meeting had taken place.
Moreover, we would like to remind Sh. Jakhar that it was he who had also been criticising Captain Amarinder Singh’s working as Chief Minister during this tenure and now he is acting as if Captain Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister has never failed in performing his duties.
It also needs to be pointed out that if the performance of the party cannot be criticised even if the government is working against the interest of the public which has reposed faith in the party and elected them to power, then this is against the principles of democracy.
Another interesting thing that we would like to point out is that during the tenure of Sh. Partap Singh Bajwa as the PPCC President, it was Captain Amarinder Singh who had been opposing and criticising not only the PPCC but also the party high command. He even had the audacity to criticize Sh. Rahul Gandhi who is our esteemed leader.
As regards the allegation pertaining to the drug case, Sh. Partap Singh Bajwa had on record been asking for a CBI probe as well as an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate especially against Sh. Bikram Majithia.
It was Captain Amarinder Singh who opposed it by issuing a statement saying that despite the fact that Bikram’s brother-in-law was the Deputy Chief Minister and the Home Minister of the state, Punjab Police would be able to investigate the case in a proper and fair manner.
It appears that Captain Amarinder Singh has started suffering from dementia and has forgotten that it was he who had supported the Badals in the drug case and not us.
As regards the sacrilege case, it needs to be specifically pointed out that till date Punjab Police does not have the original case file with them which is still lying with the CBI.
The State did not even file a contempt petition for getting back this case file and are misleading the public by stating that they are investigating the case. We are disheartened by the lack of effective action by the State Administration in ensuring that the families who have lost loved ones due to the liquor mafia are delivered justice."
