2 additional sampling/ testing centres in Mohali
Regular inspection of L2 hospitals
S.A.S. Nagar, August 24, 2020: No elective surgeries are to be undertaken in the Level 3 hospitals in the next fortnight, ordered Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan in the meeting held here today to review the spike in corona virus infection.
“Rapid surge in COVID-19 cases mandates escalating bed strength in tertiary care (L3) hospitals, so it has been decided that surgeries that don’t require an immediate medical procedure can be scheduled to be performed later and may not be conducted at least for a period of fifteen days ,” said he. Avoiding joint replacements, cataract extraction, ligament repairs etc, will help to check avoidable bed occupancy, leaving room for critical patients.
Besides, we have strengthened our bed capacity at Level 2 also by activating 200 additional beds in Gyan Sagar Hospital. Added to this, 8 new ambulances have been added to the existing fleet. We are procuring additional ventilators and high flow nasal cannulas, informed Dayalan.
He further divulged that with more and more people coming up for COVID-19 testing at Civil Hospital district administration is setting up two more testing centres at Nayagaon and Sohana in order to ease the pressure at Civil Hospital and reduce the waiting time per patient
“Strengthening the infrastructure will be accompanied by monitoring the existing facilities as high patient influx will require fine-tuning of the system”, said the Deputy Commissioner and informed that “we have constituted teams of civil and police officers who along with a doctor, will make random checks at the hospitals to keep a vigil over the level of services extended to the COVID -19 patients.
