Fatehgarh Sahib. October.19, 2020 - Sirhind Police have booked five persons for allegedly transporting paddy from UP to be sold in the grain markets of Fatehgarh Sahib and impounded five trucks carrying approximately 138 tonnes of paddy.
GS Sikand SHO Police Station Sirhind said that police got the information that five trucks fully loaded with the paddy are standing at a dhabha on the GT Road and the paddy will be sold at high rates in the grain markets of the district. He said that on the complaint of Balwinder Singh Mavi Senior Vice Chairman of Market Committee Sirhind a FIR has been registered u/s 420, 120B IPC at Police Station Sirhind against the five persons and their trucks have been impounded. He said that those arrested have been identified as Satbir Singh Driver of truck number PB-11-CJ-6400 resident of Julkan Patiala, Satparkash Driver of PB-11-CM-8364 truck resident of Yamuna Nagar, Sanju Kumar Driver of PB-65-AT- 7122 resident of UP,of Kamaljit Singh Driver of truck PB-11-CJ- 1505 resident of UP and Balwant Singh driver of truck PB-12-M- 9647 resident of UP.
He said that they used to purchase paddy at cheaper rates from UP and Bihar and then bring it to Punjab for sale at MSP rates, which is much higher and earn huge profit. They evade the State taxes and also burden the State exchequer. He said that it is a case of tax evasion and smuggling of paddy.
