Ferozepur farmer sets precedent for fellow-farmers for managing stubble
Ferozepur, October 22, 2020: Stubble burning is a relatively a new issue nowadays when the environment is polluting having a number of side-effects but Ferozepur progressive farmer Sukhwinder Singh son Lachman Singh of village Kalu Mander in Block Makhu of Ferozepur, has sent a precedent for fellow farmers in managing crop residues by not burning paddy stubble and managing it in the fields itself to increase the soil fertility and contributing the making a pollution-free environment. Rather, he cultivates paddy with modern technology through SMS combine, which merges the paddy residue in the fields which do not pollute the environment but increase the fertility of the soil, reduce the incidence of pests and diseases on crops besides enhancing the crop quality.
Giving information in this regard Deputy Commissioner Gurpal Singh Chahal said that this farmer prepares the field for the cultivation of vegetables by mixing the crop residues in the soil through a rotavator.
He said that the farmer gives credit for a technique to the Agri. and Farmers Welfare Department as he has been put wiser about the latest technology and motivated through periodic farmer training camps by providing subsidy as financial assistance to the farmers. DC also appealed to the other farmers of the district to protect their environment from pollution by not burning the waste in their land but mixing it with the land by spreading it in the fields.
Sukhwinder Singh said, it is an easy and useful way to manage the stubble in the fields. It is also the need of time to avoid burning the stubble as it decreases our soil fertility and a major cause of pollution. It is our duty to protect our region from engulfing in the smoke. I also appeal to my fellow farmers not to burn stubble and try other options to protect our environment.
