Bathinda, October 28, 2020: Radio diagnostic facilities like CT scan, MRI and x-ray and hostel for boys and girls were inaugurated at AIIMS Bathinda today.
Union Health Minister Harshvardhan inaugurated the facilities virtually. Punjab Cabinet Minister Om Parkash Soni and MP Harsimrat Badal were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
AIIMS, Bathinda is an apex healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
It all started as a dream of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee who envisioned of correcting regional imbalances in healthcare in the country, and attaining self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
PMSSY planned to set up 22 new AIIMS like institutions in underserved areas of the country. AIIMS Bathinda aims to fulfil its laid down mission objectives - education of diverse health professionals, research in biomedical sciences; and patient care at the highest care level
The foundation stone of AIIMS Bathinda was laid in November 2016 by our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. We welcomed our first batch of MBBS students in June 2019 and commenced our OPD services in December the same year. The inaugural batch of MBBS course (2019-20) had 50 students, and the incoming batch (2020-21) will have a strength of 100 students.
The OPD Clinical departments include Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Skin, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Pediatric surgery, Surgical Oncology, Urology apart from diagnostic services like Radiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry. Within a few months of starting operations, the OPD footfall increased to more than 1000 patients per day by February 2020, before the Covid pandemic related movement restrictions were enforced
During the covid pandemic, teleconsultation services were commenced and now e-sanjeevani OPD is running with great success at the hospital. Online classes for students were conducted through video conferencing. The construction work was commenced after the lifting of the lockdown restrictions are in full swing at the present time.
The student hostel complex and Mess area are going to be operational from 1st November 2020. The Medical College and Indoor patients department is nearing completion. With the CT Scan, MRI and Digital X ray commencing from 1st November 2020, high end diagnostic services will be available in-house for the patients.
