Travel time to reach Chandigarh airport will reduce; planning underway

UT Adviser Dharampal chaired a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue of synchronising the traffic lights and creating green channel for the purpose of reducing travel time to reach Chandigarh airport.
Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Mohali, Chief Administrator GAMADA, Mohali, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Chandigarh, Chief Architect, Chandigarh, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh were present in the meeting.
On the directions of the High Court, all the stake holders discussed the issue wherein it was apprised that there are 15 Traffic Light Points from Transport Chowk to the Airport. Out of these, 9 are under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh Administration 3 are under Mohali MC, 2 are under JLPL Engineering Wing and the remaining 1 is under GMADA.
The adaptive traffic control system on the 9 signals from Transport Chowk to Faidan barrier is the advanced control system which controls the cycle time locally on individual roundabouts/intersections through the Integrated Control and Command System of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd.
After detailed deliberations, it was decided that all the stakeholders i.e. Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. (CSCL), CA GAMADA, Mohali, MC Mohali & SSP Traffic, U.T. Chandigarh will examine the issue and send their comments to the Chief Engineer, Chandigarh within a week’s time so that the High Court may be apprised about the same on the next date of hearing i.e. 11.7.2022.
