Culmination of MAITREE 2023: An Incredible Indo-Nepal Cyclothon by Bhavanites

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh had organised a first of its kind Cyclothon- ‘Maitree 2023’ from Chandigarh to Kathmandu, themed ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. This unique endeavour began on 27th May, 2023, when the cycling contingent comprising seventeen dauntless students and five teachers was flagged off by Shri R.K. Saboo, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh Kendra, on an incredible journey to spread the message of love and universal brotherhood. This arduous yet exciting journey concluded in Kathmandu on 3rd June, 2023, covering 1300 km, as a befitting tribute to the ‘World Bicycle Day’.
The route to Kathmandu took them through notable destinations such as Haridwar, Kashipur, Sitarganj, Kapilvastu, and Bharatpur, adding to the richness of their experience, immersing them in an enriching and entirely different cultural experience. The Bhavan team cycled resiliently, often pedalling at odd hours, overcoming all the unforeseen challenges. In Nepal, Siddhartha English Boarding Secondary School, Butwal and Daffodil Boarding School, Kathmandu extended their warm hospitality to the Bhavan cycling contingent. Honouring the tremendous effort of the cyclists, the students also had the proud privilege of being invited by the Indian Embassy in Nepal and interact with the embassy staff.
The main objective of this Indo-Nepal Cyclothon was to strengthen the centuries-old ties between India and Nepal and foster an even deeper bond of friendship and love with our neighbouring country. Over the course of twelve days, these determined students and teachers covered a staggering distance of 1300 kilometres on their cycles. As messengers of peace, these young children aspire to contribute their part in making the world a more harmonious and beautiful place to live in. MAITREE 2023 Cyclothon marked the fifth expedition organized by Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, following their other successful ventures in the past.
With the successful culmination of this eventful journey on 8th June, the students returned to BVC campus with precious memories for a lifetime, raring to go at the first given opportunity for their next expedition.
The proud contingent was welcomed by R.K. Saboo, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh Kendra, Madhukar Malhotra, Secretary Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh Kendra, Vineeta Arora, Director Education cum Senior Principal and other senior staff members. R.K Saboo, in his address, accentuated that this remarkable journey transcending boundaries, has inspired people from all walks of life. Vineeta Arora appreciated the young cyclists for their steadfast resolve and passion for undertaking this inspiring journey.
